Abstract

Description

"Studies on vocational education and training in foreign branches of German companies are available for various countries (e. g. China, India, USA). In this study, we change the perspective: Starting from the parent company in Germany, we frst look at (a) the tasks and challenges of an international vocational training management and then (b) the question of the extent to which regional development impulses are generated by this commitment abroad. Te case study in our case study is the family-owned company Festo, headquartered in Esslingen, Germany. Te case selection is based on the criteria “internationalisation” as a necessary and “family business” as a (presumed) sufcient condition for the existence of an international vocational training commitment in the headquarter of the parent company. With regard to the frst research interest, we identify 13 functions of an international vocational training management as well as two central challenges (standardisation and integration). With respect to the second research interest, it is evident that the establishment of dual training abroad favors the development of a regional “skills ecosystem.” (authors abstract; BIBB-Doku)
