Abstract
„The strong demographic change is leading to an older population in many regions of Germany. In almost all regions, this trend is increasing the need for long-term care and the demand for skilled nursing staff. By 2040, regional increases in demand of up to 30 % compared to 2021 are expected. Bavarian regions are affected to an above-average extent, while only slight increases in demand are expected in Saxony. Nevertheless, the latter regions in particular could face major challenges, as their labour force potential is expected to be limited. The supply of skilled labour will largely depend on whether it is possible to recruit enough people for training, such as career changers, older workers and foreigners. The digitalisation of the occupational field could also help to alleviate the high demand for skilled workers in the future.“ (authors‘ abstract; BIBB-Doku)
