Abstract
„Ongoing changes on the training market, as well as the ensuing changes in competence and qualification requirements and demands for lifelong vocational orientation, particularly affect (educationally) disadvantaged young people at the transition from school to work. These young people then go on to a phase of pre-vocational preparation. However, the concrete effects of these transformation processes for this target group are mostly unclear. In this paper, we take up the discussion of the working group 9+1 on the transition system, seen as a system for improving life chances (‘Chancenverbesserungssystem’). We will discuss what is meant by such a system and combine concrete requirements with the young people's options. Generally, we do not follow the perspective of how young people should fit into the world of work, but rather ask what education should provide. Therefore, we take up the perspective of the young people, as well as the perspective of actors in the educational context (including teachers, trainers, social workers and SEN (Special Educational Needs) specialists), through qualitative case studies. In this context, we combine a requirement-oriented and subject-oriented perspective. On this basis we will discuss various different aspects that would be involved in transforming the vocational preparation system into a system for improving life chances.“ (authors‘ abstract; BIBB-Doku)
