Abstract
“The Call for Papers for this issue states that "The pedagogy of professional and vocational education and business studies is a discipline in educational studies which includes the task of disciplinary self-reflection.” At the centre of this self-assertion there is the question of whether with the “newly emerging concepts such as employability and competence the other categories that also contribute to the forming of its discipline and identity such as work, profession and education are losing significance.” This paper takes up the conceptual focus of this theoretical self-assertion with regard to the concept of education. In seven selected publications the reception and use of the concept of education is researched, in order to ascertain whether, and if so with which reasons, the idea of ‘education’ as a category that contributes to forming the discipline and identity of professional and vocational education and business studies has actually lost its force. The constructive relevance and position of the concept of education in the didactic approaches, the argumentative connections in the educational theoretical discourse or the substitution of an educational theoretical justification are examined. In this sense the focus of my investigation is on the question of the integrating of professional and vocational education and business studies in educational studies.” (author’s abstract; BIBB-Doku)
