Individual Conceptions of Vocational Learning and Teaching across Learning Sites in the Swiss VET Context : Manifestations and Associations with Occupational Field and Role of Actors

Abstract

"This contribution presents a qualitative study that aimed at discerning different individual conceptions of vocational learning and teaching across learning sites in the context of the Swiss Dual VET system as well as identifying potential factors that might affect their concrete shape. Based on a phenomenographic approach and a socio-cultural perspective, the study investigated which individual conceptions manifest themselves in the given context, and to what extent they include socio-cultural key claims. Moreover, it explored associations between the identified conceptions and the occupational field the participants are in as well as the roles they assume in the VET learning and teaching process. Analysis of data from 26 interviews allowed to discern four types of individual conceptions, which can be interpreted as progressively shifting from a rather dualistic and unconnected view of vocational learning and teaching across learning sites towards a more integrated and connective conception of these processes. In addition, substantial and significant associations between the concrete shape of the individual conceptions and the occupational field as well as the role of actors emerged." "Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt eine qualitative Studie vor, die darauf abzielte, im Kontext des schweizerischen Berufsbildungssystems unterschiedliche individuelle Vorstellungen zum lernortintegrativen beruflichen Lernen und Lehren zu eruieren sowie mögliche Faktoren zu identifizieren, welche deren konkrete Form beeinflussen können. Basierend auf einem durch einen phänomenographischen Zugang und sozio-kulturelle Lehr-Lerntheorien geprägten Forschungsansatz wurde untersucht, welche individuellen Vorstellungen sich im gegebenen Kontext manifestieren und inwieweit diese grundlegende lerntheoretische Annahmen umfassen. Darüber hinaus wurden Zusammenhänge zwischen den identifizierten Vorstellungen und dem Berufsfeld der Teilnehmenden sowie ihrer Rolle im beruflichen Lern- und Lehrprozess untersucht. Die Analyse der Daten aus 26 Interviews ließ vier Arten von individuellen Vorstellungen zum Vorschein treten, die als ein Kontinuum von einer eher dualistischen und unverbundenen Sichtweise des lernortintegrativen beruflichen Lernens und Lehrens hin zu einer stärker integrierten und vernetzten Konzeption dieser Prozesse aufgefasst werden können. Darüber hinaus ergaben sich substanzielle und signifikante Zusammenhänge zwischen der konkreten Ausgestaltung der individuellen Vorstellungen und dem Berufsfeld sowie der Rolle der Akteure."
