Abstract

„The automotive and supplier industry is caught between accelerated innovation dynamics, digitalization, and structural change. New technologies—especially in the context of e-mobility—are changing not only products and processes, but also the requirements for professional qualifications. Interdisciplinary skills in the areas of teamwork, communication, and basic digital skills are increasingly in demand. However, job screenings in companies—which were carried out and compiled in various projects by the Forschungsinstitut Betriebliche Bildung (f-bb)—showed that technical skills continue to play the most important role in the transformation. An analysis of job advertisements in the automotive industry showed a significant increase in terms such as “sustainability” and “e-” (e.g., “electromobility”), but a willingness to learn and the ability to work in a team are also becoming increasingly important for the industry. This article uses the example of the job profile “automotive mechatronics technician” to examine how job profiles are changing under the influence of transformation processes. It also provides practical examples of how vocational training can respond to this. Results from company case studies, a job advertisement analysis, and a SWOT analysis provide practical suggestions on how companies can combine technical and interdisciplinary skills to make the job profile fit for the future.” (authors’ abstract; BIBB-Doku)
