Abstract
„The construction sector is among the most resource-intensive industries and should therefore be at the center of sustainable transformation processes. To effectively prepare skilled workers for these challenges, integrating Vocational Education for Sustainable Development (VESD) into construction-related occupations is essential. This article addresses the research question of which approaches are necessary, based on a systematic literature review. Out of 1,091 reviewed publications, 17 relevant studies were qualitatively analyzed. The findings highlight two key dimensions: First, innovations in vocational education require didactic advancements that incorporate sustainability-oriented learning objectives, participatory design tasks, and the expansion of professional competencies. Second, transfer strategies are needed to firmly embed VESD through curricula, examination relevance, institutional structures, and cooperation. The construction sector offers particular potential in this regard, as it combines ecological, economic, and social dimensions, thereby creating opportunities for the advancement of vocational education for sustainable development within construction professions.” (author’s abstract; BIBB-Doku)
