Abstract
„This article reflects on the design of the Berlin school experiment Blending4Futures from a methodological perspective and examines how design-based research (DBR) can be implemented within the institutional framework of school pilots. School pilots function simultaneously as pedagogical development spaces and administratively regulated instruments of educational governance. As a result, core tensions inherent to DBR—particularly between proximity and distance, developmental and legitimatory logics, and openness and procedural accountability—become intensified. Using Blending4Futures as a case study, the article reconstructs how these tensions were addressed through a deliberate separation of scientific roles: a design-oriented, didactic accompaniment working in partnership with schools, and an independent, evidence-oriented evaluation. The analysis demonstrates that such tensions cannot be resolved but can be productively designed if they are addressed at the level of pilot architecture rather than individualized within researchers’ roles. The article concludes with methodological implications for the design of future school experiments.” (author’s abstract; BIBB-Doku)
