Abstract
"Increasing sales of ecological and socially responsible products demonstrate the growing strategic importance of sustainability as a target-area for retail companies. But classical business approaches, with their focus on cutting costs, do not do enough to support sustainable economics. Companies wishing to practise sustainable economics must develop innovative solutions to problems. This paper presents a set of instruments that are based on approaches to innovation (competency) research, and on subjective beliefs about knowledge and knowledge acquisition. The INE-Toolbox aims to build individual innovation competency and encourage sustainability in innovation management. Company executives and employees are supported in practising sustainable economics by four components of the INE-Toolbox, which provide guidance in innovation projects. With the help of exploratory tasks (component 1) and guidance texts (components 2-4), employees develop their knowledge and ideas about sustainability (individual methods) and discuss discursive negotiation procedures with one another. The tools are used as follows, as part of a target-group workshop concept (consensus methods): the concept map (component 1) to identify problems; the hat-changing method (component 2) to generate ideas; the polar coordinates technique (component 3) to evaluate ideas; and the Gantt chart (component 4) to plan implementation. This method connects competency development with organisational development and helps to align pedagogical and economic goals." (authors' abstract; BIBB-Doku)
