Abstract

(Autorenreferat, BIBB-Doku)
"The various typologies of national vocational training systems that have been developed in a number of different disciplines are discussed and their usefulness in societal comparisons investigated. The typologies can be used, firstly, to identify interesting interactions between vocational training, labour markets and production, welfare and even political voting systems. Secondly, they bring out the strengths of dual training systems with regard to reducing youth unemployment and developing effective decentralised production systems. The strength of the typologies lies in their empirical basis in particular reference countries. However, this empirical foundation is lost in the typologies developed by institutionalist economists who, on the basis of the rational investor hypothesis, construct functionalist equilibria between various societal sub-systems."
