Abstract
„Against the backdrop of internal as well as external drivers of change, work processes and tasks of responsibility of industrial specialists are becoming increasingly digitalised. This is accompanied by transforming operational role requirements in terms of qualification and competence. A qualitative study conducted in the industrial engineering occupational division of the Volkswagen Group revealed a digitisation-related demand for academically qualified employees as well as a displacement of professionally trained staff. Based on those findings the study addresses the question of whether digitization leads to more stringent qualification requirements that can only be acquired in the context of an additional degree program?“ (author’s abstract; BIBB-Doku)
