Abstract
(Autorenreferat; BIBB-Doku)
"Research hardly takes into account the heterogeneity of the educational pathways of school leavers without university entrance certificate. Most research on the transitions of these school leavers focuses on one specific status passage (e. g. the transition to vocational education and training - VET). However, after completing school in year 9 and 10, students face different alternatives. Sequence- and cluster analyses have been conducted based on data from the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) to investigate the educational pathways of school leavers without university entrance certificate. The results underline the heterogeneity of school leavers’ educational pathways. Their educational pathways range from direct or delayed transitions to the dual system and school-based VET programs through transitions to further general education to obtain a (technical) university entrance qualification to problematic pathways. The results of multivariate analyses further show that educational certificates and school leavers’ endowment with social and cultural resources can explain a considerable part of the variance in school leavers’ educational pathways. Nonetheless, inequalities in access to VET remain despite consideration of individual, social and regional factors." (author's abstract ; BIBB-Doku)
