Abstract
"According to the German national edcuational standards, the competence students develop in lower secondary education is expected to prepare them for example for vocational training in technical domains. In detail, it is expected that the competencies will help to gain occupation- related knowledge. Empirically, it is unclear whether and to what extent subject-related competencies canacquired at school explain occupation-specific knowledge in addition to well-known, general predictors of knowledge acquisition. In the manuscript some evidence regarding this question will be presented within a sample of N = 1459 trainees in technical vocations by regression analytical methods. The results suggest that especially competencies acquired in the field physic knowledge, occupation-specific previous knowledge, general cognitive abilities and language skills are predictors of occupation-specific knowledge."
