Abstract

(Autorenreferat; BIBB-Doku)
“Generally speaking civic engagement includes, amongst other aspects, a benefit for the individual. Lifelong learning is also discussed in terms of a process which lies in the responsibility of the individual. This implies that the individuals also gain benefit from lifelong learning. Through the societal change the demands on potential trainees are increasing in the form of increasing demands for qualifications. At the same time the emphasis placed upon various competences and skills is in a state of constant flux. Occupational orientation has to open up with regard to an ongoing orientation related to the capacity of continuing further education and training and lifelong learning, inextricably linked with the corresponding required sense of personal initiative and self-responsibility. It is becoming clear that the societal change with regard to the labour market relates to the education and training sector as well as to the individual curriculum vitae. The development of qualifications and their marketing is becoming increasingly necessary for the shaping of the curriculum vitae, as well as flexibility and mobility. Using qualitative interviews carried out with mentors working on a voluntary basis, who support and accompany young people in the transition from school to vocational training, the benefit for these mentors that emerges through the process of accompanying the people regarding their own individual professional orientation is considered. The data are based on research carried out in 2009.” (authors’ abstract; BIBB-Doku)
