dc.description.abstract“The aim of this paper is, in an initial step, to give a brief overview of the understanding of the pedagogy of vocational education and training and business studies at the four higher education institutions (HEIs) in Austria, with a focus on pedagogy of vocational education and training at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz. In general there is a one-phase study structure for the academic and vocational preparation of students of the pedagogy of vocational education and training and business studies, which simultaneously sees its great strength in a polyvalent education, which combines teacher training with a qualification for occupation fields in business and pedagogical fields. Likewise, in the academic professional preparation generally the integration concept is preferred to the concept of phases. Building on these reflections, the next step outlines the differences and similarities between the HEIs, but above all the differences and similarities with the German educational landscape. The strategic basic orientation of the chairs in Austria is divided into two, an over-simplification of course. Courses in vocational education and training and business studies in Austria are seen, on the one hand, under the aspect of business studies (Vienna and Graz) and, on the other, from the tradition of educational studies (Innsbruck and Linz). Finally, this paper asks the question of which consequences this self-conception has on research-led teaching. The paper uses as an illustration the new Masters’ course in the pedagogy of vocational education and training and business studies, which is scheduled to be introduced in Graz from the Winter Term of 2009/2010.” (authors’ abstract; BIBB-Doku)de
