Abstract

"This article makes two key contributions to the ongoing discourse on the use of generative AI in vocational education and training (VET). First, it applies and adapts activity theory to the context of firm-based learning, highlighting the embeddedness of learning processes within a multi-actor socio-technical system. Second, it translates this theoretical perspective on human-computer interaction into practice by developing a prototype of an AI-assisted training dashboard for apprentices, thereby demonstrating how generative AI can be leveraged to enhance workplace learning outcomes. The article is structured as follows: it first outlines the theoretical framework of AI-supported learning, then presents the prototype dashboard as an illustrative application, and finally discusses key considerations for the implementation and evaluation of AI-assisted training systems in organisational contexts."
