Abstract

"Widespread and effective access to education is a necessary condition for active participation in our countries. 'High-quality Education and Training for All', the theme of the Conference that brought together the OECD Ministers of Education, shows the scale and the nature of the challenges facing education. The Ministers discussion and conclusions are presented in this volume, and so is a general analysis by the Secretariat. The need for an integrated approach is stressed: only analysis and actions joining education and economic and societal problems can provide viable answers. This volume emphasizes the key role played by learning, not only in personal and cultural development but also for economic and social well-being. A statistical overview of developments in the education, labour market and demographic fields, drawing on the most recent data available, is also included."
