Abstract
„The shortage of teachers in technical subjects at vocational schools raises the question of the attractiveness of a career as a teacher in metal and electrical engineering. In a complementary mixed methofd design with various empirical studies (qualitative and quantitative), students and teachers entering the profession in these fields are examined to investigate this question. Some aspects were found to be highly attractive: a high level of general satisfaction in the profession, a habitual fit to the field and the profitable transfer of one's own previous professional experience into teaching practice. However, the career path into the profession is long and costly. At the same time, vocational training, which can be seen as favourable prior experience in terms of the attractiveness of the profession, represents a risk factor for possible deprofessionalization.“ (authors‘ abstract; BIBB-Doku)
