Characteristics and current status of the German Dual VET system

Abstract

This contribution starts with a description of the distinctive features of the Dual Vocational Education and Training (VET) System in Germany and its current status in the German education system. In the second section some organizational aspects of VET are addressed thereby focussing on the role of training standards for the provision of demand-oriented Dual VET. Afterwards, status, role and responsibilities of trainees and training personnel in the Dual VET system are described. Finally, the governance of the German VET system is regarded, which is characterized by a strong partnership between state, employers and trade unions. (BIBB-Doku)
