Abstract
(Autorenreferat; BIBB-Doku)
"In a brief sociohistorical review, the article presents the changes in the world of work beginning with early industrialization up to the present day and discusses the respective health consequences. Work satisfaction and work suffering are thereby considered in an interrelation. In order to understand the effects of (gainful) employment on health, it is necessary to consider the salutogenic as well as pathogenic factors of work and to examine them on different levels, i.e. work situation, work cooperation, employment biography as well as social time. Work is both a protective and a risk factor for health, and its contribution to health has received too little attention so far." (author's abstract; BIBB-Doku)
